On The Water…with Captain Alan  Have you ever wondered how this charter guide spends his day off?  That’s easy…looking for a new honey hole, of course.  I managed several gags to 30″ while vertical jigging just off of Siesta Beach in 22′ feet of water.  Now that’s my idea of a little R & R! My catch-of-the-report photo…   Tight Lines,       […]

On The Water…with Captain Alan  The Fall migration run is in full swing. Giant Spanish mackerel to 29″ are feeding like crazy on our nearshore artificial reefs. Little tunny in the 15 lb class can be found crashing schools of glass minnows from the beaches off Siesta Key north to Longboat Pass. Without a doubt, the […]

On The Water…with Captain Alan  Thanks to light easterly winds, snook fishing on the beach has been absolutely fantastic.  Anglers aboard the Magic have brought large numbers of snook boatside using live pilchards for bait.  Most of our catch has measured around that 24″ mark, but we’ve also tangled with some real bruisers –  I’m talking fish weighing 18 to 20 lbs.  This […]

Weekly Fishing Report 06/11/2012

June 11th, 2012

As strong on-shore winds from recent tropical weather continued to make beach tarpon fishing difficult, anglers aboard the Magic turned their attention elsewhere.  In both New Pass and Big Pass we’ve found the snook bite in full swing.  These incredible gamefish are feeding like crazy on free-lined Pilchards.  We also caught Gator trout to 25″ on the deep grass flats close to both of the passes.  […]

Thanks to a week of mostly warm, sunny days, the late morning bite has been outstanding! Anglers aboard the Magic have caught trout, pompano, sheepshead, black drum and more. CB Fletcher of Denver, Colorado had a pleasant surprise, when he boated a 28″ snook while fishing a bucktail jig around docks in north Sarasota Bay. Nice!!! My catch-of-the-week photo…           […]

On The Water…with Captain Alan  Winter’s arrival only slowed the bite for a day or two as anglers fishing aboard the Magic caught trout, mackerel, bluefish, pompano, redfish and black drum. We concentrated our efforts on the deep grass flats of Sarasota Bay and docks with good tidal flow. Live shrimp and jigs with soft plastic grub tails […]

On The Water…with Captain Alan Warm sunny days gave anglers aboard the Magic a week of outstanding fishing. Little tunny to 20 lbs were exploding on schools of glass minnows off Lido Beach, Spanish mackerel were feeding on live shrimp in Sarasota Bay and pompano to 16″ were caught in Big Pass using Doc’s Goofy Jigs. Let’s go fishing! My catch-of-the-week photo…     […]

Weekly Fishing Report 11/09/2011

November 9th, 2011

On The Water…with Captain Alan Fishing the beaches of Longboat Key and Lido Key provided anglers aboard the Magic with lots of outstanding action. Our strategy was to search for flocks of diving birds to locate schools of little tunny and Spanish mackerel.  Once we found the action, we had great success with white buck-tail jigs and DOA shad tails in silver and […]

Weekly Fishing Report 10/29/2011

October 29th, 2011

On The Water…with Captain Alan Ahead of this week’s cold front, anglers aboard the Magic found Spanish mackerel and little tunny feeding like crazy. However, once the cold windy weather blew into town, the bite came to a screeching halt. Now that Mother Nature has returned us to the warm sunny days we’re so accustomed to enjoying this time of the year, we’re back to catching redfish, snook, flounder, trout and much more. The bite […]

On The Water…with Captain Alan Anglers fishing on the Magic caught snook to 27″, redfish, flounder, jacks up to 4 lbs, bluefish, little tunny and lots of Spanish mackerel as big as 30″.  Using live pilchards for bait, we concentrated our efforts along Siesta Key beach, near-shore artificial reefs and the Middle Grounds of Sarasota Bay.  It’s time to go fishing! My catch-of-the-week […]
