May Fishing Report
On The Water...with Captain Alan. Anglers aboard the Magic are encountering some of this year’s best Snook fishing. Big breeder...
Anglers fishing aboard the MAGIC had lots of fun catching a variety of fish. Large Ladyfish started the action most mornings as the other species we were targeting would wait until the sun was high in the sky to become active. Thats when Pompano, Bluefish, and Trout gave most anglers good action. However, nothing could compare to the Mangrove Snapper bite. They provided the best fishing on most days with the bite starting about an hour before the bottom of the out going tide. It’s been sometime since I’ve enjoyed an inshore Snapper feeding frenzy as good as this one, in fact its better than good, its incredible. Several anglers caught 30 plus fish with quite a few of them measuring in the 14 inch range. All that was needed to locate fish was to find a pile of rocks with moving water. The tackle was simple and light. We rigged 10lb Power Pro with 24 inches of 15lb fluorocarbon leader attached to a #2 circle hook. A small split shot was used to add just enough weight to get a live shrimp close to the bottom. Once there, the fight was on.
THE ONBOARD, catch of the holiday season goes to Dennis Haley for his 30 inch Snook caught on a white and copper colored bucktail jig. Nicely done Dennis!
