May Fishing Report
On The Water...with Captain Alan. Anglers aboard the Magic are encountering some of this year’s best Snook fishing. Big breeder...
Trout, Trout and more Trout was the theme for anglers aboard the MAGIC all through the month of April. Keeper size Trout were boated daily with quite a few anglers catching fish to 24 inches. The best action was found in the deeper parts of grass flats all along the east side of Longboat Key from the Middle Grounds to Helicopter Shoal. The bigger fish were caught on DOA CAL jigs worked slowly just above the grass in 5 to 7 feet of water. Redfish also made there presence known as a good number of fish were caught on live shrimp around mangroves on the west side of Sarasota Bay. Gag Grouper turned out to be another highlight during the month of April. Lots of Gags were found holding tight to rocky areas throughout the bay. These guys are a handful on light tackle as some anglers had the opportunity to experience first hand while battling fish up to 19 inches. Jack Crevalle and Snook also made a nice showing aboard the MAGIC in April. Several anglers tangled with Jacks weighting over 8 lbs while the Snook action really started to heat up as water temps hit the mid to upper 70’s.
May is one of my favorite months to fish and as usual for this time of year anglers are off to an outstanding start. Multiple catches of Snook weighting from 12 to 15 lbs, Tripletail, Cobia and the first Tarpon of the season weighting 110 lbs plus have all been boated in the past few days.
TARPON TIME IS HERE !!!
